Hero Story
From the moment she was old enough to hold a book, Swathi has believed in the power of stories. She has always been drawn to the idea that books can change lives, and she has spent years turning that belief into action.
When she first began donating books, it was just an 8th grade English project of hers. But she knew she didn't want to stop it there. When she co-founded The New Page Project, she wanted to produce lasting change for the communities she worked with, as demonstrated by her determination to spread chapters and recruit volunteers so that her work would continue even in places she wasn't. She has helped donate over 20,000 books to low-income schools in Michigan.
She has a heart for service, and encourages others to serve as well. When she began volunteering for nonprofits, Pampa Kannada Koota and Teen Advisory Board, she asked all her friends to join, and inspired many classmates to volunteer with her. She has spent hours creating library programs that bring the community together at TAB, and helped raise $1000 with Pampa which was donated to Carleton Elementary School.
She cares deeply about communities inside and outside Michigan, creating international chapters of The New Page Project, and raising money with She’s the First, over $2000, to support girls education worldwide.
She is proof that one determined young person can create real, lasting change.
