Hero Story

Abdarrahman has had a positive impact in both his immediate ethnic community and communities of those in need. He has served in so many capacities of community service that he has inspired others to participate more intentionally. However, if I had to pick out of all his endeavors his most impactful actions are in the lives of patients and families he’s touched. Abdurrahman’s gentle, calming spirit has comforted people from all walks of life at their most vulnerable state, during a health crisis. His tenure in volunteering at Trinity Health not only has helped our healing environment but his willingness and involvement with the implementation of new programs geared towards process improvement. His reputation of displaying compassion, leadership skills, and hard work have made in a hot commodity for special projects.
Every area that he is assigned attributes more inclusion, enhanced productivity and program success directly linked to his involvement. His stamp in the academic community related to preparation for advanced learning will have a lasting impact on all students who will take the SAT after having participated in his tutoring personally or benefitted from the programs he helped design.
Despite volunteering in many stressful circumstances and scenarios Abdarrahman consistently sets the tone and creates a safe space for teens, patients, and the Ann Arbor community at large. His benevolence shown to others has been meaningful and life-changing in ways that will resonate with time.

How has the Nominee produced lasting change for individuals, organizations, or communities?

He has been a great asset to our healing environment by displaying compassion, taking leadership and ownership in his roles and mentoring new summer teens. His direct involvement to the implementation of new procedures and programs will continue to uplift patients at Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA). Methodology has been created to improve functionality and his ability to communicate and orientate others has been priceless. The “train the trainer” concept has taken flight with him, and it has crossed over generations, cultures, and religious beliefs. He is a well-rounded youth bringing a lot of best practices for buy in and success.

Education:
After receiving an exceptional SAT score (1540), Abdarrahman was invited by Khan Academy/Schoolhouse/College Board to host an “SAT Bootcamp” for the May 2024 SAT.
He accepted, knowing that he could pursue his passion of teaching and impart his knowledge and skills to students worldwide. Additionally, Khan Academy Schoolhouse has a rating/feedback system for tutors, and when his tutees gave him the highest possible positive rating: “Super Helpful,” with feedback such as “fun” and “patient” with “good explanations,” he says it was truly a wholesome and gratifying experience.
Other organizations Abdarrahman has served or granted membership through educational excellence:
HOSA 9th Grade-Current 1hr/wks., 4 months/yr Advanced from Districts to Regionals in Epidemiology
National Honor Society
National Merit Scholarship Program

As a teen lead volunteer, he has served over 250 hours at Trinity Health Ann Arbor since joining the team in 2023. Holding volunteer roles as a Welcome Ambassador in the Outpatient Surgery Center and the Emergency Department and as a lead Summer Teen Volunteer for the Growing Compassion Flower Program, Abdarrahman really has made a difference in patients’ lives. Most recently, he was asked to take a lead volunteer role in the pilot and implementation of a new lost and found program dedicated to reconnecting people with their belongings. In all his roles he has continuously provided comfort, support, and security measures to our patients, families and visitors.
