Clarkston Community Schools Academic Service Learning Program. (2002-2025)
The Academic Service Learning program fosters authentic learning by seamlessly integrating curriculum with service projects that address real community needs. With strong support from district leaders and administrative backing, teachers design projects that align with state academic standards while creating meaningful, real-world connections. This approach empowers students to develop social responsibility and gain the confidence to drive change. By partnering with local organizations—such as those supporting seniors, aiding disaster relief, protecting the environment, and assisting those in need—we strengthen both students and communities. These partnerships create a lasting impact, highlighting the power of students to foster positive change.
The Clarkston Community Schools Academic Service Learning Program (2002-2025) offers students opportunities to engage in a wide range of academic and community-based service activities throughout the school year. These activities contribute to both personal growth and community improvement. Each year, stakeholders meet to determine a local focus—last year’s were SCAMP and Blue Heron Headwaters, while this year’s focus is Neighbor For Neighbor. Teachers still have the freedom to select their own passions, partners, and projects that blend authentic learning with meaningful service.
