Hero Story

Lauren founded this community service project in 2021 and runs is solely on donations and fundraising. She has been running this program for four years now. She serves as the program's founder, leader, and is a volunteer. She provides free educational gardening kits to individuals and families across the State and beyond to help provide education and access to fresh produce. She has also led multiple fundraising campaigns which raised over $4,000 in donations that lead to nearly 1,000 kits provided to individuals and families. She researches and designs all educational materials, creates seed packets, packs kits by hand, and delivers them to schools and community members. Each kit includes 10 seed varieties, two informational resources, activities, instructions, and more. She has been able to provide fresh produce for those in need, and to encourage an increased consumption of fruits and vegetables in all regardless of their economic status. The connections she makes and stories she hears from participants are a few of her favorite things about this program. She is striving to help people live longer, happier, and healthier lives by helping them lower their risk of developing chronic diseases through fruits and vegetables. It is special because it is completely free to anyone who wants to participate, it is solely run off of donations and fundraising, no matter who you are, you are able to access these kits and grow your own fresh produce, and she also expands this project through her participation in the Miss America Opportunity.
