Michigan Tamil Sangam (MTS) – Tamil school (2010 to 2022)
Volunteer hours:.1920 hours.
Served as lead teacher for students teaching the language of Tamil to different age groups. She inspired the kids to learn which made the learning easier for kids. She creates Curiosity in the minds of the kids and she touched life’s of 100’s of children over the years.

Served as principal of the school, we have about 200 kids enrolled in our school under her guidance.
As lead teacher, her mantra was to ignite a love for tamil language in young minds, fostering curiosity and a desire to learn. She touched the lives of hundreds of children, leaving a lasting impact. ‘Language loss not only erases linguistic diversity but also erodes cultural heritage and history” per united nations website. As a result, she thought our language to next generation of kids that live in MI by teaching them to read, write and speak.
Recognizing the UN's warning that language loss erases cultural heritage and history, when she took the role of principal, she spearheaded a multi-faceted approach to preserving Tamil language. Under her guidance, we:
Documented Tamil through audio and video recordings by kids, shared stories and poetries by native speakers and writers, maintained social media presence.
Revitalized the language by encouraging students to speak Tamil at school and perform on stage, and Engaged kids in cultural activities like traditional singing and storytelling.
Today, our school proudly educates over 200 students in Tamil, ensuring the next generation inherits this precious heritage.
Help us celebrate a champion of Tamil language preservation! Kalaiarasy's tireless efforts to elevate our school and promote our mother tongue are truly deserving of recognition. With an indigenous language disappearing every 2 weeks, according to the United Nations, Kalaiarasy's work is vital. Join us in applauding her dedication and well-deserved nomination.
