Hero Story

Good Shepherd Coalition (GSC) is a bridge between faith and community-based agencies and organizations. They provide assistance,
basic needs, and resources to at-risk individuals and families. GSC operates solely on donations, and
helps each household on an individual basis without bias or discrimination, with equal effort, compassion, and
empathy.

This is their 29th year providing services to those in need. In the last decade, GSC has assisted over 5000
families with over $3.5 million in coordinated funds. These numbers do not include the Annual Holiday
Assistance program. In 2022 GSC provided Thanksgiving and Christmas to 425 children in 155 families
with over $70,000 in generated funds provided by 17 different faith-based organizations.

GSC is a provided resource by MDHHS, Community Action, Veterans Services, SVDP, United Way, Salvation Army, along with many local schools, hospitals, and programs.

During the largest apartment fire in Macomb County GSC acted as a strong touchstone for not only city departments, the victims, but also the Red Cross and supporting community partners. When the protocol for many organizations is 30 days or less, GSC remained in connection with the fire victims for no less than one (1) year. This is the GSC difference in advocacy; they understand that with great disaster, crisis, or trauma there is no set timeline to wholeness.
