Rising Tides Project

Grand Rapids

Hero Story

Mental health disorders are at crisis levels and depression, anxiety, and suicide continue to rise at alarming levels. Many of today's young people face dark and heavy life periods, ill-equipped with the proper coping mechanisms to successfully navigate through these rough times. Feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and lost, many turn to addictive means to ease/escape the pain (drugs/alcohol), and sadly many resort to eliminating the pain altogether through suicide.

Recognizing the need for mentorship, community, and a positive outlet, RISING TIDES PROJECT was founded in 2021 to help address this issue in our local community. The mission of Rising Tides Project is to use FISHING as a platform to educate, inspire and serve those with LOW TIDE Mental Health.

Like the tides, inevitably life is a series of ups and downs. We believe that having places, things, and people to turn to during these LOW TIDES will greatly impact the success of working through them until life rises up again. And it will!

Our organization provides many services from private fishing excursions to our weekly fishing club to larger-scale community support events. Our program is 100% free and every participant is given all of the fishing gear to use. We have a fantastic mentoring program where past youth participants are promoted to Junior Guides, that in turn connect and coach younger novice participants. In addition, we have many wonderful volunteers that support our cause.

Our organization is completely funded by the generous support of our donors and through the sale of logo retail gear. In recent years, we have expanded our message exponentially through branded content on social media, videos, presentations, and a new podcast (set for summer 2023).

Low Tides MUST Rise is the positive affirmation that we often share that embodies our belief that no matter how dark the day is…a brighter one is one the way; No matter how empty it may feel….hope is on the horizon!
