Hero Story
I’m nominating Pastor Brigitte Brown of Rivers of Life church for the additional service she provides for the community’s. For the last 8 or 9 years Rivers Of Life has put on a free basketball camp with backpacks full of school supplies for youth 5-18 years old. About 100 students at every camp. For the last three years she switched from school supplies to giving out back to school shoes up to $200 each student, all because one girl from grand rapids came to the camp and forgot her shoes. Pastor Brigitte decided to then give out shoes! Shoes are a big confidence booster and giving back to the community towards those who can’t afford it, is only one way Rivers Of Life comes thru for the community. When covid hit, the biggest struggle for essential workers, was childcare. Because of Pastor Brigittes yes, the church was able to open up its facility and offer childcare and tutoring for free. Almost 50 kids came thru. My favorite story, is a mom dropping her kid off and cried bc her child was able to read her a story at bedtime, when the child was struggling with reading. The kids not only kept up with school work but were excelling. All teachers and tutors were volunteers. The fed them two meals every day too! All for free just to help out essential workers. Pastor Brigitte has mentored so many people who excelling in life. Most pastor only take care of their sheep, but not pastor b or Rivers Of Life, they do so much for the community. The serve the Homeless every week too!
