Aarionna Totty

Holly

Hero Story

“To whom much is given, much is required” is a biblical principle that Aarionna embodies. Aarionna understands the importance of being kind and serving others. Ever since the age of six, she has volunteered and completed over 170 volunteer hours with several organizations, servicing children and the elderly in the Detroit metropolitan area. Although she is the youngest volunteer at the age of twelve, she volunteers with the Blessing in a Backpack organization, a community-based organization ensuring our children in the Avondale School District have sufficient food for the weekends. She currently supports 350 Avondale students weekly. In addition to packing backpacks, Aarionna has organized a hat and mitten drive in which she collected over 100 hats and mittens for elementary students. “Throughout the time I’ve known her, she has shown me repeatedly that she is positive, caring, and a leader.” Kessie Kaltsounis, Co-Chairperson, Blessings in a Backpack

To provide comfort and support for senior citizens during the COVID Pandemic, Aarionna organized a writing campaign for the residents of Grovecrest Senior Care in Pontiac, MI. She wrote over 80 letters and created cards for the residents. “Given that many residents could not receive any visitors from family members and friends, Aarionna’s letters and cards provided tremendous hope and encouragement. Their faces lit up each time they received mail.” Liz Edger, Director of Operations, Grovecrest Senior Care.

Aarionna has been recognized by her peers and teachers as well as national organizations for her community service. Her awards include the Jack and Jill of America Service Award (2016-2022), the Auburn Hills Elementary Volunteer Leader Award, and the National Urban League “Do the Right Thing” Award for Community Service. Aarionna is genuinely a compassionate leader and an inspiration to our community.
