USP4GG
Sterling Heights
Hero Story
USP4GG is one of the leading Filipino American organizations in Michigan. Our work has helped to increase education of Filipino American culture, history and presence in the U.S but also to promote diversity within the Asian American community. With the rise of anti-Asian rhetoric and hate crimes in the U.S since Covid-19 our members have recognized the need to for the APIA community to educate, engage and empower the public at large.
Our group is a Filipino-based group, but we realize that in order to truly promote the tenants of good governance that we must encourage diversity by working with individuals and groups from other backgrounds as well. The principles of being participatory, responsive, and inclusive are continually being taken to the next level in terms of how we promote diversity.
Not only are we proud of our heritage but the concept of being inclusive to all cultures is what makes us successful as a group. At our core, one of our main focuses is how we promote diversity by sharing our culture; but we are steadfast in the importance of giving other cultures a chance to share their story as well. Some of our events such as the Asian Rice Festival, Miss Asia, Twelve Outstanding Asian Americans are prime examples of how working with other communities can create even more awareness on the importance of diversity. All of these events are hosted by USP4GG with the help of individuals and organizations outside of our immediate circle. We have partnered with Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian (to name a few) communities in order to support one another and our individual and mutual missions.
While we have worked to educate, engage and empower our members and those we encounter through our events and presence; one of the largest impacts the organization has made is truly creating bridges amongst the community in mutual understanding, respect and friendship.
