Hero Story

I wanted to share Erin with you and tell you all the tremendous ways Erin is working to save the kids of the S.E. Michigan area and beyond. Erin has been working with our foundation since 2018, and in 2019 she was so dedicated to our mission that she quit her career of 18 years, pack her things, left her family (for only 8 weeks), and moved 300+ miles from home to become a certified ISR instructor. This not only cost her time away from her family and beloved career but $$12,000 of her own savings as well. You see drowning is the leading cause of accidental deaths in kids ages 1-4 years old, and 2nd leading in kids 5-14. Erin knew this static well. Her best friend's daughter drowned in 2016 at the age of 4. Erin wanted nothing more than to save other families from ever knowing this tragedy. It became Erin's mission to educate, help, and support our community on water safety. Erin helped start The Remembering Temperance Foundation, and then once certified in ISR Self-Rescue® Survival Swimming Lessons started providing her services to the foundation at a very discounted rate. This way the families that need our scholarships can get them because we have more funds available. It cost Erin heavily to run lessons for the foundation kids. There is the pool needed itself and the rent she pays to have that, to energy bills, time, gas, and a lot of other miscellaneous costs as well. Never once has she passed this onto the foundation in any way. Her heart is truly a servant's heart.
