Christian Johnson
Houghton
Hero Story
Christian Johnson has been with Dial Help since the summer of 2020. In that short time he's given so much of himself to others and is an inspiration to our organization. I've been the Volunteer Coordinator at Dial Help for about three and a half years. When COVID-19 hit, understandably so many decided they couldn't volunteer. Christian decided that was the perfect time to volunteer with a non-profit, work as a Resident Advisor on campus, and participate with mulitple student organizations, like the Society of African American Men and Sexual Assault Violence Education, which works on sexual violence awareness and prevention. The summer of 2021 he even volunteered at a large hospital during his college break. He is focused and committed to his community and peers.
Dial Help is a small “one stop shop” of a non-profit. Christian took the opportunity to get involved with every department he could. He worked with the Crisis Line and went through our Crisis Specialist training. He also completed Advocacy training through the Michigan Sheriff’s Association and is a member of our death notification team. He’s worked closely with our Sexual Assault Response Team with outreach, community presentations, and learning more about the legal and medical system. He’s also worked with the Communities that Care on Suicide Prevention in our community. He's mastered the art of meeting people where they are at so he can provide non-judgmental services that actualy help people.
What most impresses our organization about Christian is his dedication to the community. He’s studying to become a doctor and hopes to continue working with the rural population. Christian stays grounded while giving most of his free time to others. Our world needs more individuals with his demeanor and kindness going into medicine. We think he’ll do great things and are grateful to be a part of his journey.
