Hero Story

Mary Zaleski directs many productions for Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center, whose goal is the positive development of young people through experiences in the arts. During the pandemic Mary worked tirelessly to engage kids online, directing several virtual performances and just reaching out to kids to make sure they were doing well. She adapted amazingly well to the virtual platform and allowed a couple of hundred kids to have a quality online opportunity that closely resembled a live performance. Mary always goes above and beyond in what she does and is utterly dedicated. We always joke that she needs a bed at the theatre as many days she is there from dawn to dusk! She is always willing to offer her time to anything that gives young people positive opportunities and is always an advocate for our young people. She is patient and kind and adored by many!
