Lawrence Friday
Norton Shores
Hero Story
Larry Friday started volunteering on the Emergency COVID Response Team through United Way in late April of 2021. He has been a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) since May 2021. During this time he has engage people as a Heritage Museum docent and worked with United Way of the Lakeshore with community outreach events such as COVID clinics, community drives and Day of Caring projects, which include cleaning veteran headstones at local cemeteries. A veteran of the United States Air Force Larry’s call to service continues today through his generous gift of time as he answers the call to assist with any project needed throughout our community. His enthusiasm to help our community doesn’t stop there: he volunteers at church events and for Catholic Charities pantries as well.
Larry inspires so many around him when they see the impact he makes in the community engaging multiple family and friends who are now volunteers with RSVP. When asked about his service during the Crush COVID campaign in Muskegon County, Sunny Crenshaw – Volunteer Point & Administrative Secretary for the Public Health Office of Muskegon County – stated:
“Larry and his brother, Ron Friday are an absolute thrill to work with. It doesn’t matter if we need help inside or outside, they’re there. They’ve helped us with traffic control outside and pedestrian traffic inside. They always greet everyone with a smile and help the residents feel at ease. I can’t think of a major event that they weren’t part of, from community testing events to vaccination clinics and even other volunteer opportunities that popped up as we started to progress towards our new normal. They really are a blessing to our community.”
Larry has spent countless hours working as a check-in registrant and traffic control man at our local clinics. We always know that if we need someone right away, Larry will be there. He is always fun and a joy to be around for not only our other volunteers but our vulnerable clients as well.
