Kyle Hein

Eaton Rapids

Hero Story

Kyle Hein was a former Lansing Police Officer who was severely injured with a traumatic brain injury while in the line of duty detaining an individual. Later on, he started developing severe mental health symptoms that ended up costing him his career. After several years of going from treatment center to treatment center, he started to understand his TBI and his PTSD. Then after many years, he decided to create a community organization that is faith-based and focused on helping first responders and veterans with understanding and potentially overcoming their PTSD. Thus, MI Heroes Haven was born in Eaton Rapids, MI. Since their launch this year, they have had cohort groups come through and they have had 100% success with helping these first responders and veterans with reclaiming their lives. Their 'Get Back Up' program is an intensive three-day "Retreat Style" treatment.

What these heroes experience here is a true awakening to what healing truly looks like. MI Heroes Haven emphasizes that they are providing creative solutions for our nation's heroes who are facing symptoms of PTSD and suicidal ideation. That is why I feel Kyle and MI Heroes Haven should be nominated for these awards. Their mission is incredible, their successes are wonderful, and the people whose lives have been recovered are amazing advocates and volunteers for their program.
