Lighthouse MI endeavors to build equitable communities that alleviate poverty. The organization serves thousands each year through their food distribution programs, emergency shelter, transitional housing program, permanent and supportive housing program, housing and rental assistance programs, follow-up care, and more.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Lighthouse stepped up to provide more support than ever before. They went from serving 10,000 individuals a year with emergency food to more than 5,000 each week. They now provide food at two food pantry locations, 4 satellite locations, and through an at-home delivery service. Additionally, they quadrupled the capacity of their emergency shelter to try to keep up with the growing need. They have kept up with these increased numbers since the beginning of the pandemic and are working on long-term solutions to keep up with the growing demand for help, such as their recent project to open the only fixed-site family emergency shelter in the county. In addition, they continue to focus on the need for more affordable housing throughout the community and recently opened a 64-unit affordable housing project and are working on a project to update 234 additional units in Oakland County.
