This has been an extraordinary year, a time of sorrow and trouble, but also a testament of bravery and courage, most of all the ability of human beings to pull together and transcend their own personal interests. The DIWA community is an exemplary of the commitment to raising the human spirit through helping those in need while pursuing passion.
-First organization to help organize PPE when there was shortage! Donated over 2000 PPE KN 95 and distribute to nurses, Doctors of the community.
-Bringing together sewers of the community and Making 5000 masks through Covid-19 and donating it to the homeless, underserved, senior centers, disability adults.
-Making 2000 meal packages and distributing to homeless in Detroit and Flint.
-Helping the youth Boys- made 200 meal packets and donated to Detroit Boxing Club
-Helping Girls-collected 1500 hygiene items for Alternative for girls.
-launching Indian Fashion Week and Indian Artists Exhibition for female entrepreneurs when the retail world was at a stand still.
– educating the community on how to wear mask by creating a video
-DIWA Garden grew and distributed fresh vegetables to food banks and disabled adults
It also made flower bouquets to cheer up the senior citizen community and delivered them to the senior centers
-DIWA also planted a Garden for Living and enrichment center. A center to help mental disabled specifically autism
– raised and Donated $2500 to homeless 3 times breast cancer survivor to help pay her bills.
DIWA has been a great platform to learn and to be open to changing our minds through the exchange of ideas, to assimilate information from multiple perspectives, and to question our assumptions. We live in a polarized nation where many speak loudly but have little to say. The antidote is to create a robust, community, welcoming to individuals from all backgrounds, committed to rigorous inquiry, devoted to understanding and improving the human world.
