Hero Story

Rev Dr. Tynes MD is a USAF veteran that treats and helps veterans in the community. He led the cities H1N1 Pandemic response with a mobile vaccination clinic. He now leads the COVID-19 response team for the city. He is currently leading the lead poisoning response and education with the Benton Harbor Water Council as its medical director at the same time as our city's Public Health Director. He is the chief medical officer for our Benton Harbor Monoclonal Antibody Center.

He is the Team Physician and Trainer in our Benton Harbor school system. He runs the Children’s and Youth Community Garden Program. He also runs the Reach Out To Youth: Future Doctors Future Leaders Program affiliated with Wayne State University School of Medicine and Michigan State University School of Medicine. He is a 1st degree black belt instructor for the Benton Harbor Tae Kwon Do Outreach program. He mentors youth in the community and high school. He is an ordained Head Pastor of Keep It Real Ministry Church.

He sits on several city committees: Personnel and Finance, Community and Economic Development, and Income Tax Board Review. Dr Tynes chairs our Public Health Department Systemic Racism Task Force. He is currently helping with water distribution for city residents and trying to rehab a building to become a homeless boys' youth shelter. He is also a National Health Service’s Corp Scholar.
