Finish the Mission

Grand Rapids

Hero Story

Finish the Mission Veteran Relief Fund was founded by Tom Antor, a son of a veteran who was cared for by the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans at the end of his life. With a profound appreciation for the care that was provided to his father on the most difficult days, he wanted to start a fundraiser to accomplish 2 things. First, to honor a Gold Star Family of a fallen Hero from Kent County so that West Michigan never forgets the ultimate sacrifice of our service members, and second, to give back to the Grand Rapids Veterans Homes for projects, items, resources, and programs that would enhance the quality of life for the members who live there. In 2016, Tom Antor founded Freedom Cruise, a classic car and motorcycle cruise that would provide a procession for the Gold Star families in honor of their fallen heroes. Celebrating their 7th year, Freedom Cruise was a stellar success with over 2,000 in attendance on September 11th to honor all fallen heroes.

Throughout the pandemic, Finish the Mission has brought over $4,000 for the members as they relied on staff/donations to obtain these items. Since Finish the Mission started in 2016, they have given back over $100,000 to individual veterans in our community for assistance with transportation repairs, rent, food vouchers, and more, and $35,000 specifically to two large capital projects that improved the lives of the members at the Veterans Home in Grand Rapids. The board is 100% all volunteers.
