Hero Story

Mara is well-known for her kind heart, work ethic, positive attitude, teamwork mentality, leadership, compassion, and endless love of animals. She is well-loved and respected throughout the Capital Area Humane Society (CAHS) for her hard work and commitment to CAHS animals. The time Mara has spent with behaviorally challenged dogs, working with them and preparing them for adoption, has led to countless dogs finding forever homes, as well as changing the lives of their new families. Thanks to Mara, these hard-to-place pets have not had to spend extended lengths of time in a stressful shelter environment. Her attention to their mental health has genuinely changed their lives for the dogs who have been in the shelter for more extended periods. Throughout the years I've known her, she has shown me that she is a positive, motivated leader who goes above and beyond in everything she does. Mara's work at CAHS is invaluable, and she possesses all of the beautiful qualities you could want in a volunteer.
