Dr. L. Robert "Bob" McConnell

Lansing

Hero Story

Dr. McConnell is the embodiment of an authentic volunteer. He has volunteered for many decades, served for over fifteen community and professional organizations, and received honors from many more. Any one of those organizations would say that his impact has been lasting. He has played an essential role in strengthening all organizations he has volunteered to serve by helping, for example, to revise by-laws and develop strategic plans. He always asks, "why are we doing this?" to ensure the organization's mission is achieved.

Dr. McConnell hasn't just helped with the internal organization work but was an enthusiastic, hands-on volunteer who has helped with, to name a few, reading programs, programs for people with disabilities, children, families with challenges, and the Eaton County Parks and Recreation Commission. He has consistently and effectively been an advocate and agent of change for many causes. Dr. McConnell's work and ethics have significantly impacted many young people in his community, and he is often sought after for advice and guidance. He is an exemplary community citizen. Dr. McConnell is humble and always recognizes others for their work and expects nothing in return for his own work. Dr. McConnell volunteers to make his community a better place to live, and this combination of action and attitude is why he is considered deserving of this recognition.
