Hero Story

Jane has been volunteering with Habitat Capital Region since 1998. In 2020 Jane was a weekly ramp crew volunteer and devoted more than 105 hours, with a limited build season due to weather constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 1998 we estimate Jane has contributed roughly 3,800 volunteer hours to Habitat for Humanity Capital Region and has provided valuable volunteerism to our community through her time and talents, making a difference in the lives of those who benefit from the services she offered.

Even with the COVID-19 pandemic, Jane and other ramp crew volunteers still served families with restrictions in place. Twenty-five households now have safe, independent access in and out of their homes due to the time and work Jane and her fellow ramp crew volunteers gave to the program. Jane has made an impact in the lives of dozens of households served by Habitat Capital Region's Ramp Program over the past 23 years, as they now have safe and independent access to their homes. She has made an impact on the people who volunteer alongside her week after week.

Terry and Barb (Habitat Capital Region clients served by the Jane's ramp crew) shared their view on her impact: "Dear Friends, My wife Barbara suffered a severe stroke, and I didn't know how we were going to get her in and out of the house because of the steps. The volunteers came and built the most beautiful ramp, and now we can safely get Barb in and out of the house. It is such a blessing; may God bless you all. Thank you very much."
