Hero Story

Brien has been an asset to Hospice of Lansing and Ionia Area Hospice for years. His passion for helping others is evident. Brien had dedicated himself to visiting a patient weekly for two years. When Brien saw this specific patient, he wheeled him around the facility he was at and played countless hours of checkers with him. When Covid hit, he continued visiting the patient through the window – he never gave up or missed a week. His service made the most impact on the patient's quality of life. Brien was there for the patient until the end. I know from the patient's daughter and staff members that Brien was considered a friend. Friends are with you through thick and thin, and that's what Brien did, and we are forever grateful. Brien's dedication has given all our volunteers hope and is an inspiration.
