Rod Brown
Farmington Hills
Hero Story
Rod Brown retired from engineering and strategic development at General Motors to serve. He began with his own school District, Detroit Public Schools, applying his skills to manage major facility upgrades and lead a district wide program to reduce chronic absenteeism. He added many Partnerships that provide supplemental educational programs and expanded volunteer programs, including bringing AmeriCorps VISTAs into Central Office and AmeriCorps Members into the schools.
I nominate him as a hero because he took his skills from the Corporate world to empower over 50,000 youth in Detroit, overcome the challenges of poverty, and be equipped for college and the workforce. Rod’s passion for service is endless and since retiring from DPS, he has transitioned to supporting 15,000 youth in the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan as the VP of Strategy. I know his impact will be transformational.
