Hero Story

Commerce Township resident Barbara Garbutt, a retired educator, is a tireless volunteer and champion of her community. In Commerce Township alone, Ms. Garbutt has served on the Parks and Recreation Committee, the Cemetery Committee, and the Commerce Township Library Advisory Board. In addition, she is the president of the Walled Lake City Library board and she serves on the Senior Advisory Council of Oakland County.

If serving all of those organizations wasn't enough, Ms. Garbutt continues to give back to the school district where she once worked as a Physical Education Teacher, Outdoor Education Director, and Principal: she is on the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools Legacy Scholarship board and the Walled Lake School Employees Federal Credit Union board. Ms. Garbutt has touched thousands of lives through her dedication to her community.
