Wafa is the Founder/CEO of Noors Heaven of West Michigan Services and she has been personally involved in growing the organization and ensuring that services are available to Arab and Muslim individuals and families, during Covid especially. Beginning in April 2020 Noors Heaven was one of the first organizations to seek food distribution volunteers, engaging teams in sorting, packing, loading/unloading. Beyond that, they have begun to seek professional volunteers to assist with eviction prevention, helping their community in a very multi-faceted way! Wafa always stands up when an opportunity is presented, offering to distribute Global Youth Service Day kits with their meal boxes, partnering with HWMUW by joining our opportunity initiative for grass roots organizations, and investigating grants as often as she is able.
After COVID-19 arrived in West Michigan, according to Wafa, Noor’s Heaven saw a temporary increase in demand for services from about 1,000 individuals in a typical three-month period to 7,926 within the past three months.
