Matt Prentice
Detroit
Hero Story
Chef Matt Prentice, a Detroit native and renown chef, has served the Detroit area for more than 20 years. As a chef he didn't just make stomachs feel good, he made hearts feel good as well.
People recall Prentice as a generous, kind, and fun chef with a heart of gold. From raising funds for Performing Arts students to be able to perform in New York's Carnegie Hall, to his partnering with Cass Community Social Services as a donator, teacher, and food operator; Chef Prentice has impacted his community for the better. His philanthropic efforts have helped feed thousands of people every month. In a time where more and more people are dealing with food insecurity due to the pandemic, his work has helped keep people from going hungry.
What makes Chef Prentice so special is that no matter his successes or accolades, he never forgot about his fellow Detroiters. He put back into the community that he grew up in and that is special.
Although Chef Matt Prentice is physically gone, passing away in April 2021, his spirit and legacy lives on in the hearts he touched, the souls he changed, and the partnerships he made.
In my eyes, Chef Prentice is the epitome of what a hero is and should be celebrated for his contributions to a better city, state, and world.
