Father Bill Lugger

Lansing

Hero Story

Father Bill has always been an advocate for equality for young people, racial justice and support of older people at the end of their lives. He’s been an outspoken advocate for listening to those who are hurting and being respectful of people with differing opinions. He’s ensured access to education for youth and ensured people had food, clothing and shelter. One of his favorite aspects of his ministry has been hospital ministry and he has responded, connected and supported so many families as they face difficult end-of-life moments. He has served thousands of funerals and made them personal, loving and forgiving. In his 33 years of being a priest, he was never afraid to speak up for what is right. I respect him for his bravery and honesty. He retired last year but has not stopped serving, and after a pretty serious illness he was so happy to return to hospice to visit patients last month!
